[StartQuote] Hey guys, Thanks for the pictures. By the way, the Enlisted Sailors uniform was copied from the English . Three white stripes on jumper (piping) three great naval battles won for England by Lord Nelson. Two white stars on jumper. King and Queen of England. Thirteen buttons on ramp, Represent 13 original colonies. Bell bottoms so the pants could be rolled up to keep clean while washing the decks and they pants would not chook you. Bell bottoms could be filled with air and used as flotation aids. Seams pressed on inside of uniform to keep material from getting shiny. Jumpers were designed to discouage sailors for getting pot bellies. You could wash the uniform in a bucket of water, let dry, and press and be fresh for liberty. I use to get my white piping changed every other month. I had an iron and would press uniforms for twenty five cents. Here is the kicker, the German Navy uniform was also copied from the English with the piping, bell bottoms, and stars. Just some Navy trivia. Maybe you can add to this ? Arthur [EndQuote]
