[StartQuote] One of the most importatnt things when displaying a Flag from WWII is the correct backing. All of my backings are acid free, which helps to protect the Flag inside the case. Remember, the Sun is the number one enemy when it comes to Flags and or collectibles. The ultra-violet rays will soon cause discoloration to any piece if hung where the sun hits it. I have had items donated that have hung in direct sunlight, and were runied because of exposure. Also remember that indoor lighting using Flouresent bulbs can cause damage from long term exposure. My Flags only get exposure in an Exhibit, and after that, they are put away in an acid free Museum Box. Nothing from my Exhibit see's the sun. It can and will destroy your collectibles. If you must hang any Flag inside, be sure it has been properly protected, and away from any Sunlight coming thru an open window. Uniforms of any kind should also be properly stored away from sunlight. All of my uniforms or Jackets are kept in a Museum Proected Garment Box. If you do not want this expense, store them in a Cedar Chest in a cool place. They will last a life-time. If you have anything in an attic or Trunk, get it out of there. Homes where people smoke can also wreck your Flag or collectibles. If you must smoke inside, keep your items in a Museum Box. Never store items in a Basement, bedcause dampness will also play havoc on your items. High humidity can cause problems as well. So, if you value that Flag or Uniform, have it properly protected, and if you want to display it, send it to me as a donation to the Exhibit ( I had to throw that in ) lol................. [EndQuote]
